As companies and their employees get increasingly mobile, multiple methods of communication have emerged: fixed telephones, mobiles, personal assistants (PDAs), laptops, email, chat, and videoconferencing. Companies are increasingly moving towards voice and data convergence solutions for managing and working with employees in remote sites, improving efficiency, and providing better service through communication.
Voice over IP (VoIP) and Telephony over IP (ToIP) are two different concepts. In VoIP, voice is transported on an IP data network outside the company through a carrier or between company sites using a private network.
ToIP is based on VoIP but it offers a rich range of services and applications such as call reception solutions, Computer-Telephony Integration (CTI), unified messaging, and multimedia contact directories. When connected to the data network, handsets become IP terminals and the PABX turns into a communication server (full IP or hybrid, which supports both IP and non-IP handsets). Voice and Data traffic is supported on a single network: the enterprise IP backbone.
The ToIP market gained momentum in 2003. More and more companies are adopting ToIP with an eye to the future as the technology has now matured. ToIP deployments typically occur when the legacy PABX becomes obsolete or when a company site is opening or relocating.
Why choose Telephony on IP (ToIP)?
Traditional PABX is disappearing from offices as ToIP is a modern choice worth the investment.
Brings together new applications and enables new services such as mobility, collaborative and client relationship management services
Makes it possible to standardize services between remote sites.
Allows simplified operation (single network) and savings in site-to-site communications and infrastructure costs.
