The Church of Sweden, with 5.5 million members and 20,000 employees, plays a key role in Swedish society. Beyond ceremonies like baptisms, weddings, and funerals, it offers services such as preschools, choirs, and is Sweden’s largest property owner.

In 2023, the Church of Sweden renewed its contract with Axians after five years of close collaboration. The new agreement focused on strengthening the church’s cybersecurity, a measure that has become increasingly important in a time where threats to digital systems are growing. Axians’ task is now to monitor and protect the church’s IT infrastructure around the clock. Extending the contract was a natural step, based on the strong relationship and trust that had been built over the years. From day one, Axians had shown that they were not just a supplier, but a partner who listened and acted based on the Church of Sweden’s specific needs.

This trust was well placed, as it became particularly evident later in 2023 when the Church of Sweden was subjected to a serious cyberattack

The Church faced a major cyberattack when ransomware crippled its data center, forcing a complete shutdown of IT operations. This incident threatened to disrupt key activities across the organization. Axians’ experts acted quickly, deploying teams that worked evenings and weekends to recover systems. Their expertise ensured that the Church’s operations were secured and stabilized, preventing any prolonged disruptions.

In this context, responsiveness is key. Axians’ experts always understand the urgency and priorities of their clients to act swiftly and ensure the church’s security.
